Our MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) E-13B fonts allow you to print MICR
E-13B numbers and codes from computer

| CMC-7 Fonts
The MICR E13B font is a special font that is used on bank
checks and drafts in the United States, Canada, Puerto
Rico, Panama, UK, and a few other countries to print MICR
characters for magnetic recognition and optical character
recognition systems. The MICR E13B font contains ten
specially designed numeric characters 0 through 9, and
the four special symbols: transit, amount, on-us, and
dash. The MICR CMC-7 font is a special font that is used
on bank checks in Mexico, France, Spain and most Spanish

- Created Directly From ISO Specifications - the MICR E13B fonts were created according to ISO
(International Standards Organization) specifications for E13B MICR. The MICR
E13B fonts also comply to strict ABA and ANSI standards and have been in use
for over three years in Draft Creator and other check printing software
programs. These MICR fonts have been proven to pass the ABA banking standards
in the USA for bank checks and bank drafts. The MICR fonts have been tested on
several MICR readers and sorters including the UNISYS DP500 and the IBM 3890.
- Visual Basic Source Code -
we now include Visual Basic source code with your order. The VB source code
has been extracted from a working check printing application and it should
give you ideas and guidance for automated methods of printing bank checks
using our MICR E-13B font.
- Peachtree Compatibility -
some accounting packages (such as Peachtree Complete Accounting version 8 or
greater) allow the use of our MICR fonts on custom check forms. If your
accounting package has this capability, you can save on check printing and
streamline the check printing process.

- Multiple Formats Provided - when you purchase a license for this
font, you will receive all versions in a single ZIP file. The manual is
supplied in a file named "Readme.html" in the ZIP file. The following fonts
are included:
- TrueType fonts are supplied in PC and Macintosh format. The TrueType
TTF fonts are compatible with Macintosh OS X and all versions of Microsoft
Windows, including Pocket PC. Macintosh formatted MTT TrueType fonts
are compatible with Macintosh System 7.1 and above.
- OpenType OTF fonts with PostScript outlines are
provided. These are compatible with Windows, Macintosh OS X and other
systems supporting the OpenType format.
- PostScript Type 1 fonts are supplied in binary,
ASCII and Macintosh versions.
- Also included in this package are PCL laserjet soft
fonts at 300 and 600 DPI.
- With the purchase of a Developer License and 1 year of support and
upgrade protection, we can convert fonts from this package to PCL 4,
Xerox Metacode, XES, FNT, BDF, FON and AFP. More about this is

NOTE: After you order a MICR E13B font
license, you will receive our fully functional MICR font set with
our MICR font placement guidelines and Visual Basic source code. The MICR font placement
guidelines have been compiled from the ISO standards for MICR
E13B fonts and are summarized in an easy to understand document.

Pricing and Licensing:
The following is a summary of licensing and pricing, refer to the
License Agreement for
details about the license.
- The Small Company Developer License costs $295.
With this license, the rights of the Developer License are
granted to all organizations with a gross annual revenue or funding of less
than 2 million U.S. Dollars (or equivalent amount in a foreign currency) if
that company purchases either three (3) Single User Licenses for the same font product
or the Small Company Developer License and sends us a signed Small Company Agreement
which is
located at http://www.idautomation.com/sca/.
- The Developer License
costs $590 and allows one developer royalty-free
distribution of the Software internally (in the same organization) and
externally (outside the organization bundled with an application) up to 10,000
user licenses, provided you adhere to the
Developer License
distribution terms. When distributing the fonts outside your organization,
you may not resell, rent, lease or distribute the fonts alone, they must be
distributed as a component of an application and bundled with an application
or with the application's installation files. For details, review the
distribution terms.
If you have more than one developer that will be developing applications using
the fonts, you will need to purchase a Developer License for each additional
developer.
- The 5 Developer License
costs $1180 and grants the rights of the Developer
License for up to 5 developers and 20,000 user licenses. This license is also
granted if two Developer Licenses are purchased.
- The Unlimited Developer License
costs $1770 and grants the rights of the Developer
License for an unlimited number of developers and an unlimited number of user
licenses. This license is also granted if three Developer Licenses
are purchased.
- The Single User License costs $99 and allows use of the Software for one effective user in your
organization. The number of effective users for software licensing is
determined by the method defined below that returns the greatest number.
- The number of users contributing to the data that
is printed with the Software. For example, 100 users entering or editing
data on a host where only 1 program prints barcodes to 1 printer, would
require 100 user licenses. According to the multi-user licensing below, this would require
4 Single User Licenses to be purchased.
- The number of users that have the Software installed on
their CPU.
- The number of printers that are being printed to with
the Software. For example, 1 user printing to 5 printers would require 5
licenses. Per the multi-user licensing below, only 2 Single User Licenses would need to
be purchased.
- Multi-User Licenses are obtained by ordering
multiple single user licenses of the same product. The effective number of
licensed users is determined by the following:
1 Single User License = 1 licensed user
2 Single User Licenses = 5 licensed users
3 Single User Licenses = 25 licensed users
4 Single User Licenses = 100 licensed users
5 Single User Licenses = 500 licensed users
6 Single User Licenses = Developer License Granted for 10,000 licensed users

To install the MICR E13B font in Windows:
- Click on Start, select settings and click on Control
Panel.
- Click on Fonts, click on File in your main tool bar,
select Install New Font.
- Select the folder where you placed the MICR font.
- The MICR font will appear and look like this: MICR
(true type) - select this font and Click
on OK.
- Click Start and choose to shut down and restart your
computer.
- The font should be active when you restart your
computer.
- To create the correct output for the MICR font you will
need to type in the corresponding letter as in the
example:
If you have problems processing through your
bank with the MICR font, check the following:
- Verify the correct horizontal and vertical placement of
the MICR E13B font symbols and their fields. You should compare your MICR font output to our MICR font
placement guidelines document (which is only available if you purchase the
MICR font from us) or obtain the MICR Printed Image Specifications from the
American Bankers Association. This process is simplified if you are using
check stock with a light square box near the bottom; align the first bank
routing or transit symbol in the box.
- Verify that you are printing with MICR toner. Some banks
now use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to read the
MICR font line on checks and regular laser toner is
somewhat magnetic, however, you must use MICR toner to conform to the ABA
standards. Click

you can order MICR toner for your printer. If your checks come back from the
bank with little white slips attached to the bottom of them, then the bank had
a problem reading the MICR line and if the MICR line was aligned properly, it
is usually a MICR toner problem.
- Character spacing issues - One problem that some do have is that the MICR font will print about (1
to 2%) wider or narrower on some printers, paper and under certain humidity
conditions, although this will not usually cause a MICR read error. To ensure this does
not cause the MICR to get out of
alignment, programmers should design their software so that the MICR fields,
such as the transit number and account number, print independently instead
of one long string of characters. If you are using PCL fonts, character spacing can be adjusted by setting the HMI for the printer whenever the MICR font is selected.
MICR should be printed as close to 8 CPI as
possible. If you are using TrueType or PostScript fonts you may be able to
"fine tune" your font point size if your application allows it.
In the example on the right side, we changed the point size to 12.1 to
make the font slightly wider. To do this we selected the MICR font string
and then entered "12.1" in the font point size window and
pressed enter. In Visual Basic the point size can be adjusted within 1/100
of a point by changing the FontSize property as in this example where we
needed to make the font slightly more narrow:

- Character spacing issues with PCL fonts - The PCL fonts have been programmed to print at the exact
dimensions to meet the specifications. You may receive slightly different
widths between TrueType, PostScript and PCL fonts depending on your printer
and its DPI. Because the TrueType and PostScript fonts are scaleable, the
printer scales the font accordingly during the print job. However, PCL fonts
are created at specific point sizes by specifying a pitch in quarter dots. Our
300 DPI MICR fonts (such as MICR3.SFP) have a pitch of 150 which is the width
of each character in quarter dots. Therefore at 300 DPI, 8 characters would
equal exactly one inch because 150*8 /4 = 300 and 300 dots makes an inch. In
the same way, our 600 DPI MICR fonts (such as MICR6.SFP) have a pitch of 300
and 300*8/4=600. 8 CPI is the requirement for MICR. If your PCL printer does
not print these fonts at exactly 8 CPI, your printer may be out of adjustment
(for example 600 dots on a 600 DPI printer may actually be printing as 1.02
inches). Other factors that can change the width include humidity conditions
and the paper used.
- Irregular character / stroke width errors - if these errors are
received, try using the bold version of the MICR font instead of the
normal version. The bold version of the TrueType font is "MICR-B10.ttf". When reported, this type of
issue was the result of strict MICR test equipment reports, although this did
not cause a MICR read error with bank reading equipment except under
conditions when printers were printing lighter than normal. If the bold
font is still too light when printed, try increasing the print intensity on
your printer or in your print driver.
- When creating custom check forms with Peachtree Complete Accounting,
the MICR font cannot be selected - Peachtree Complete Accounting version 8 or greater is required to use
the TrueType MICR font in reports and custom forms. Please contact Peachtree
tech support or refer to the application's documentation for problems with
custom forms.
