Interleaved 2 of 5
Font Advantage Package Features
|
If you do not use one of our Font Tools, the implementation of Interleaved 2 of 5 as a bar code font can be difficult because the barcode symbols are interleaved and cannot be
easily printed. If you are not required to use Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes and
you need an easy to use numeric barcode, consider our Non-Interleaved
Code 2 of 5 fonts, or our Codabar
fonts, which are both easy to print.
Details of the Interleaved 2 of 5
Font Advantage Package are as follows:
- Font Tools Included - for easy integration into applications, we provide
several
Font Tools that are free to use with our fonts. Our font tools
automatically format the start, stop and check characters to the barcode
font. The following tools are included:
- 12 Versions Provided - The Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode fonts are scaleable and should be printed
at the correct font size to suit your application and scanning equipment.
Twelve (12) versions of the Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode fonts are provided
to support different width and height requirements. The last characters in
the Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode font name determines the height of the
barcode with the shortest being IDAutomationI25XS and the tallest
being IDAutomationI25XXL. Human readable versions are also supplied
with the shortest being IDAutomationHI25XS and the tallest being
IDAutomationHI25XXL. The Interleaved 2 of 5 font ending in the
letter "L" is a special
version that will meet USPS special services requirements when printed at 20
points.
- Industry Standard Support - Our Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode font
is UNICODE compliant and it was
developed according to ANSI USS Interleaved 2 of 5 and European (CEN)
standards. Our Interleaved 2 of 5 font can be used for USPS mail special
services, EAN-14 and SSC-14 barcode
applications. Our "Interleaved2of5Mod10()" function
in our MS Office Macros and Font
Tools can be used to
encode the MOD 10 check digit required for these specifications. EAN14 and
SSC14 are primarily used for distribution applications and serialized carton
tracking.
- Multiple Formats Provided - When you purchase a license for this
font package, you will receive all versions in a single ZIP file. The
manual is supplied in a file named "ReadMe.html" in the ZIP
file. The following fonts are
included:
- TrueType fonts are supplied in PC and Macintosh format. The TrueType TTF
fonts are compatible with Macintosh OS X and all versions of Microsoft®
Windows®, including Pocket PC. Macintosh formatted MTT TrueType fonts
are compatible with Macintosh System 7.1 and above.
- OpenType OTF fonts with PostScript outlines are
provided. These are compatible with Windows®, Macintosh OS X and other
systems supporting the OpenType format.
- PostScript Type 1 fonts are supplied in binary,
ASCII and Macintosh versions.
- Also included in this package are PCL laserjet soft
fonts in 12, 16, 20 and 28 points.
- With the purchase of a Developer License and 1 year of support and
upgrade protection, we can convert fonts from this package to PCL 4,
Xerox Metacode, XES, FNT, BDF, FON and AFP. More about this is
provided here. The Developer License also grants
you the right to convert our fonts to other formats as necessary including
TrueDoc and OpenType.
- You may also get more information of what font
types are provided.

other operating systems, please visit our Technical
Support Site.
Symbology basics:
- Interleaved 2 of 5 (ITF) is a numeric only barcode
used for encoding pairs of numbers in a high density barcode format.
Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes always contain an even number of digits because a
single Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode character represents two numbers to achieve
the high density. If a number containing an odd number of digits has to be
encoded, a leading zero must be added to produce an even number of digits in
the Interleaved 2 of 5 bar code.
- The symbology of the Interleaved 2 of 5 character set
consists of bar code symbols representing characters 00 to 99, the space
character and start / stop characters. The complete printed Interleaved
2 of 5 barcode consists of a leading quiet zone, a start pattern, Interleaved
2 of 5 symbols representing data, a stop pattern and a trailing quiet zone.
According to ANSI specifications, the quiet zones must be 10 times the width
of the short bar in the barcode.
- Interleaved 2 of 5 was designed for character
self-checking, eliminating the requirement for checksum characters.
However, checksum characters maximize data integrity and are required by some
specifications.
- To learn more, please refer to the
Interleaved 2
of 5 Symbology FAQ.
Symbology information relating to check digits:
- Interleaved 2 of 5 is commonly used for ITF-14, EAN-14, SSC-14 and DUN14. These implementations usually require a MOD 10 check digit. The
Interleaved 2 of 5 MOD 10 can be calculated by our
font
automation tools or manually. Manual calculation is obtained by adding up the odd numbers
in the code and multiplying them by 3 and then add up the even numbers. The
check digit is obtained by determining the number that when added to the sum
will produce a multiple of 10. For example, the check digit for 123456789
is 5 because (3*(1+3+5+7+9))+(2+4+6+8) = 95 and 95 + 5 =100. When calculating
check digits, the data to encode should be an odd number of digits because the
check digit is interleaved with the last digit.
- The Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode may also be used as for German Post Identcode
and Leitcode symbols. Identcode and Leitcode require a checksum to be calculated. The
calculation is similar to USS Interleaved 2 of 5 MOD 10 except that even numbers are multiplied by 9 and odd numbers by 4. For example, the check digit for 12345678901 would be "6" because
(4*(1+3+5+7+9+1))+(9*(2+4+6+8+0)=284 and 284 + 6 = 290.

Printing with the Interleaved 2 of 5
Fonts
|
The Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode fonts were
created to meet ANSI and CEN requirements when printing with the font size
of 12 or greater. To determine which Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode font to
use, first print out the IDAutomationI25S barcode font at various font sizes to
determine which size is the smallest that will work with your scanning
equipment. Then, choose the tallest version that will fit in your scanning
area. You may also refer to the specifications.
NOTE: You don't need to be concerned with the details and complexity
of these fonts if you use our font
tools. However, if you are interested in manually producing
the barcodes you will find the information in this section helpful. For manual
check digit calculations, please refer to the information provided
here about check digits
The character set is listed below in the columns. The "ITF Code" column
lists the character or function that the barcode scanner will read for the
associated symbol. The columns ASCII, Char and Unicode are unique to our
Interleaved 2of5 fonts. These columns designate the location in either ASCII or
Unicode where the barcode symbol for the character resides. The column "Char"
lists the character that resides at the ASCII location which can be used to
print the corresponding symbol.

Make sure your product is properly licensed. Software audits are
performed internationally by several organizations.
Pricing and Licensing:
The following is a summary of licensing and pricing, refer to the
License Agreement for
details about the license.
- The Small Company Developer License costs $417.
With this license, the rights of the Developer License are
granted to all organizations with a gross annual revenue or funding of less
than 2 million U.S. Dollars (or equivalent amount in a foreign currency) if
that company purchases either three (3) Single User Licenses for the same font product
or the Small Company Developer License and sends us a signed Small Company Agreement
which is
located at http://www.idautomation.com/sca/.
- The Developer License
costs $790 and allows one developer royalty-free
distribution of the Software internally (in the same organization) and
externally (outside the organization bundled with an application) up to 10,000
user licenses, provided you adhere to the
Developer License
distribution terms. When distributing the fonts outside your organization,
you may not resell, rent, lease or distribute the fonts alone, they must be
distributed as a component of an application and bundled with an application
or with the application's installation files. For details, review the
distribution terms.
If you have more than one developer that will be developing applications using
the fonts, you will need to purchase a Developer License for each additional
developer.
- The 5 Developer License
costs $1580 and grants the rights of the Developer
License for up to 5 developers and 20,000 user licenses. This license is also
granted if two Developer Licenses are purchased.
- The Unlimited Developer License
costs $2370 and grants the rights of the Developer
License for an unlimited number of developers and an unlimited number of user
licenses. This license is also granted if three Developer Licenses are purchased.
- The Single User License costs $139 and allows use of the Software for one effective user in your
organization. The number of effective users for software licensing is
determined by the method defined below that returns the greatest number.
- The number of users contributing to the data that
is printed with the Software. For example, 100 users entering or editing
data on a host where only 1 program prints barcodes to 1 printer, would
require 100 user licenses. According to the multi-user licensing below, this would require
4 Single User Licenses to be purchased.
- The number of users that have the Software installed on
their CPU.
- The number of printers that are being printed to with
the Software. For example, 1 user printing to 5 printers would require 5
licenses. Per the multi-user licensing below, only 2 Single User Licenses would need to
be purchased.
- Multi-User Licenses are obtained by ordering
multiple single user licenses of the same product. The effective number of
licensed users is determined by the following:
1 Single User License = 1 licensed user
2 Single User Licenses = 5 licensed users
3 Single User Licenses = 25 licensed users
4 Single User Licenses = 100 licensed users
5 Single User Licenses = 500 licensed users
6 Single User Licenses = Developer License Granted for 10,000 licensed users
-
The Complete
Barcode, MICR and OCR Font License allows you to order all of
our fonts in one package for a reasonable price. Single user versions are
available as well as multi-user and developer licenses. View the link above for
pricing on this license.
- We offer free technical support and product upgrades for a
period of 90 days from the date of purchase on all software products.
Technical support and product upgrades may be provided beyond 90 days if the
Extended
Support and Upgrade Protection option is purchased when you order.

The X dimension (X is the width of the narrow bar) of our Interleaved 2 of 5
font is listed below for various point sizes. The narrow to wide ratio is 2.75
to 1, which is recommended by international standards.
Our Interleaved 2 of 5 fonts have been specially designed to be able to
produce dependable and scannable barcodes when printed at all point sizes. With
a 600 DPI laser, the Interleaved 2 of 5 font can be printed as small as 6 points
if the scanner supports it. We have been able to dependably scan our Interleaved
2 of 5 font printed at 6 points with the
Intermec 1800 CCD scanner.

Twelve different versions of the Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode fonts are
provided to support human readable versions and different width and height
requirements. Fonts with the letter "H" in the font name are "human
readable" versions. The last characters in the Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode font name
determines the height of the barcode, with the shortest being "XS" and the
tallest being "XXL". Because each single font can be printed at various
point sizes, there are several combinations of heights and widths that can be
produced. (click

when printed at 12 points which should work for most scanners. Measurements
for Human Readable fonts do not include the text below. At 12 points, the X
dimension is about 8 mils.
To print at a different height, find the font that has the height closest
to what you need and use this formula to find the point size you need to
print the font at to get that height:
12 * (height you want) / (height at 12 points) =
(point size converted to integer)
For example, if you are using
IDAutomationI25L
and you want it to be about .75"
tall, you need to print it at 18 points because:
12 * .75 / .5 = 18<
