Code 128 Font
Advantage Package Features
|
This Code 128 Font Advantage Package is much more than just few fonts.
The package includes 18 different Code 128 fonts in 6 different font formats.
You also receive the rights to use the Code 128 font tools, macros and source code to help you
integrate the fonts into your application. Details of the Code-128 package are as follows:
- Font Tools and IDAutomation Fontware Included - for easy integration into applications, we provide
several
font
tools that are free to use with our fonts. Our font tools
automatically format the start, stop and check characters to the barcode
font. The following tools are included:
- Cross-platform Support - the unique encoding in our font allows
cross-platform support between UNIX, Macintosh and Windows systems. For
example, the same Microsoft® Access
application or Excel spreadsheet with our
Microsoft Office Macros can be used on Windows and
Macintosh computers that have our font installed.
- UCC/EAN-128 Support - when using our Code 128 fonts for UCC-128
or EAN-128 barcodes, every
barcode must begin with a Start C character followed by a (fnc1) "function
code one" character. Our Code128() function in our
font
tools provides an automated method for doing this by
inserting an ASCII202 character for each AI represented. Read more about
how to
encode UCC/EAN in our Code 128 FAQ. UCC-128
and EAN-128 are primarily used for distribution applications and serialized
carton tracking.
- Six Different Heights Provided - The Code 128 barcode fonts are scaleable and should be printed
at the correct font size to suit your application and scanning
equipment. In addition to using the point size to set the font width, six
(6) versions of the Code 128 barcode fonts are provided to support different
height requirements. The last characters in the Code 128 barcode font name
determines the height of the barcode with the shortest being
IDAutomationC128XS and the tallest being IDAutomationC128XXL.
- Human Readable Versions -
of the Code 128 fonts are also provided for character sets B and C with your
order. Each of these is also supplied in the 6 different heights for a total
of 18 different Code 128 fonts. The Code 128 human readable fonts all start
with IDAutomationHC128 and include the letter "H" prior to a lower case letter
specifying the character set. For example, the font "IDAutomationHbC128M.ttf"
is a human readable for character set B with a font height of M for
Medium. The human readable format is not as popular as the standard
version because the check digit will also appear. Usually, programmers will
just print the data that is encoded directly below the barcode printed.
- Industry Standards - Our Code 128 barcode fonts are created from
AIM and ISO standards. When printing Code 128 barcode fonts, the size of 12
or greater should be used for compatibility between open systems. If you
have a requirement to print barcodes smaller than 12 points, a high quality
laser printer with 600 DPI resolution or greater should be used and a
barcode scanner that can read barcodes printed smaller than 8 mils. Printed
with a 600 DPI Laserjet, we have been able to
dependably scan our Code 128 font printed at 6 points with the
HHP CCD scanner.
- USPS Support - when printed at 20 points, the IDAutomationC128L font will produce the
exact dimensions for UCC/EAN Code 128 required by the USPS special
services, which is a height
of .75" and an X dimension of .013". For information about
formatting USPS UCC/EAN128 barcodes with our products, refer to the
USPS
portion of the Code 128 FAQ.
- Canada Post Support - when printed at 25 points, the IDAutomationC128L font will produce the
dimensions required by the CANADA POST, which is a height of 1" and an X
dimension of .017".
- Easy Function Encoding Capability - Our fonts provide easy
methods of
encoding
functions such as returns and tabs in the
barcode.
- Embeddable Functionality
- the fonts included with the Developer License allow embedding. Our fonts may
be embedded info PDFs, Word documents and other files that support embedding
so users that do not have the fonts installed can still print the barcode.
- Data Sheet & Implementation Examples - for more technical information about our Code 128 fonts such as
dimension specifications, character set detail and calculating the check character, please review
our Code 128 Font Data Sheet.
- Multiple Formats Provided - when you purchase a license for this font, you will receive all versions
in a single ZIP file. The manual is supplied in a file named
"readme" in the ZIP file. The following fonts are included:
- TrueType fonts are supplied in PC and Macintosh format. The TrueType TTF
fonts are compatible with Macintosh OS X and all versions of Microsoft
Windows, including Pocket PC. Macintosh formatted MTT TrueType fonts
are compatible with Macintosh System 7.1 and above.
- OpenType OTF fonts with PostScript outlines are
provided. These are compatible with Windows, Macintosh OS X and other
systems supporting the OpenType format.
- PostScript Type 1 fonts are supplied in binary,
ASCII and Macintosh versions.
- Also included in this package are PCL laserjet soft
fonts in 5, 10, 14 and 20 points.
- With the purchase of a Developer License and 1 year of support and
upgrade protection, we can convert fonts from this package to PCL 4, Xerox
Metacode, XES, FNT, BDF, FON and AFP. More about this is provided here. The Developer License also grants you the
right to convert our fonts to other formats as necessary including TrueDoc
and OpenType.
- You may also get more information on what
font types are provided.

Code 128 Symbology
Information:
|
Code128 is
high density barcode that encodes numbers, symbols, uppercase and
lowercase text as well as functions such as returns and tabs. It requires a checksum to be calculated and
can be difficult to use as a font if you are not a technical user. If you do not use one of our Font Tools, the implementation of
Code 128 as a bar code font can be difficult because it requires a checksum to
be calculated. If you are not required to use Code 128 barcodes and
you need an easy to use alpha-numeric barcode, consider our
Code 39 barcode font
which does not require checksums to be calculated. We also sell many
barcode components
that may be an easier implementation in applications such as Microsoft®
Access or Visual Basic because they automatically calculate the checksum and
format the barcode.
- Code 128 is a very high-density
alpha-numeric symbology with 106 different printed barcode
patterns. Each printed barcode can have one of three different meanings
depending on which of the three character sets are used. Three different Code
128 start characters are available to tell the scanner which character set is
being used. Code 128 is the barcode type used for USS Code 128, UCC-128,
ISBT-128, EAN-128, EAN-14, SSCC-18 and SCC-14 specifications.
- Code 128 is recommended for SISAC and SICI serialized
carton tracking applications.
- The Blood Bank industry is barcoding in Code 128 for
ISBT 128 labels.
- Code 128 is now used to print USPS Special Services
barcodes for services such as return receipts and delivery confirmations on US
Mail.
- Code 128 can also be used for EAN-14, UCC-128 and EAN-128 barcode
applications such as the UCC/EAN-128 symbols and data structure for
SSCC-18 and SCC-14. When using Code 128 fonts for this purpose, every
barcode must begin with a Start C character followed by a (fnc1) "function
code one" character. Our Code128() function in our font
tools provides an automated method for doing this by
inserting an ASCII202 character for each AI represented. Read more about
how to
encode UCC/EAN in our Code 128 FAQ. UCC-128
and EAN-128 are primarily used for distribution applications and serialized
carton tracking.
- UCC/EAN Code 128 "SSCC-18" must always be used with a FedEx Ground bar
code. FedEx publishes a
FedEx Ground MulticodeSM Barcode Label
Guide that can be access at their website. You should always
refer to their
barcode and label layout specification guide
for your application.
- Our Code128 barcode font was developed according to
ANSI and European (CEN) standards. The complete printed Code 128 barcode
consists of a leading quiet zone, a start pattern that selects the character
set, Code 128 symbols representing data, the check character to ensure data
integrity, a stop pattern and a trailing quiet zone. According to ANSI
specifications, the quiet zones must be 10 times the width of the short bar in
the barcode.
- For more information about Code 128, please refer to the
Code 128 FAQ.

Pricing and Licensing:
The following is a summary of licensing and pricing, refer to the
License Agreement for
details about the license.
- The Small Company Developer License costs $417.
With this license, the rights of the Developer License are
granted to all organizations with a gross annual revenue or funding of less
than 2 million U.S. Dollars (or equivalent amount in a foreign currency) if
that company purchases either three (3) Single User Licenses for the same font product
or the Small Company Developer License and sends us a signed Small Company Agreement
which is
located at http://www.idautomation.com/sca/.
- The Developer License
costs $790 and allows one developer royalty-free
distribution of the Software internally (in the same organization) and
externally (outside the organization bundled with an application) up to 10,000
user licenses, provided you adhere to the
Developer License
distribution terms. When distributing the fonts outside your organization,
you may not resell, rent, lease or distribute the fonts alone, they must be
distributed as a component of an application and bundled with an application
or with the application's installation files. For details, review the
distribution terms.
If you have more than one developer that will be developing applications using
the fonts, you will need to purchase a Developer License for each additional
developer.
- The 5 Developer License
costs $1580 and grants the rights of the Developer
License for up to 5 developers and 20,000 user licenses. This license is also
granted if two Developer Licenses are purchased.
- The Unlimited Developer License
costs $2370 and grants the rights of the Developer
License for an unlimited number of developers and an unlimited number of user
licenses. This license is also granted if three Developer Licenses
are purchased.
- The Single User License costs $139 and allows use of the Software for one effective user in your
organization. The number of effective users for software licensing is
determined by the method defined below that returns the greatest number.
- The number of users contributing to the data that
is printed with the Software. For example, 100 users entering or editing
data on a host where only 1 program prints barcodes to 1 printer, would
require 100 user licenses. According to the multi-user licensing below, this would require
4 Single User Licenses to be purchased.
- The number of users that have the Software installed on
their CPU.
- The number of printers that are being printed to with
the Software. For example, 1 user printing to 5 printers would require 5
licenses. Per the multi-user licensing below, only 2 Single User Licenses would need to
be purchased.
- Multi-User Licenses are obtained by ordering
multiple single user licenses of the same product. The effective number of
licensed users is determined by the following:
1 Single User License = 1 licensed user
2 Single User Licenses = 5 licensed users
3 Single User Licenses = 25 licensed users
4 Single User Licenses = 100 licensed users
5 Single User Licenses = 500 licensed users
6 Single User Licenses = Developer License Granted for 10,000 licensed users
-
The Complete
Barcode, MICR and OCR Font License allows you to order all of
our fonts in one package for a reasonable price. Single user versions are
